Wis­dom teeth removal is a com­mon sur­gi­cal pro­ce­dure. Wis­dom teeth often cause prob­lems in the mouth when they emerge, usu­al­ly because there isn’t enough room. This type of over­crowd­ing is com­mon, and the eas­i­est solu­tion is to sur­gi­cal­ly remove the prob­lem teeth.

Some wisdom teeth are easier to remove than others. When the extraction is simple, the procedure is the same as any other tooth extraction. For more complicated teeth, including impacted teeth and partially emerged teeth, your dentist may not feel comfortable removing them so why not call us to see how we can help. Surgical wisdom tooth extraction is often completed under a local anaesthetic in most clinics, rather than a general anaesthetic in hospital. This means you won't be put to sleep. However, If you're nervous about the treatment, we can discuss using conscious sedation (sleep dentistry) to help you to feel more comfortable while the tooth is being removed which means you wont feel any pain and wont even remember the procedure. We will provide you with complete aftercare to help you care for the extraction site at home including any medication you may require.

Do I need wis­dom teeth removal?

Some wis­dom teeth emerge with­out issue, but over­crowd­ing will often mean that there is no space for the tooth to emerge. When this hap­pens, it becomes impact­ed, which can lead to infec­tion, pain and dam­age to the sur­round­ing teeth. Here are the signs you need to look out for.

Pain in your jaw

If you have pain in your jaw, this can be a sign that your wis­dom teeth are problematic.

Jaw prob­lems

Trou­ble open­ing your mouth could be a sign that your wis­dom teeth are con­tribut­ing to this.

Swollen gums

If the gums at the back of your mouth are swollen or sore, you may need your wis­dom tooth removed.

Bleed­ing gums

If you often notice blood in your mouth around the wis­dom tooth, this could be a sign of infec­tion of the soft tissue.

Bad breath

If you’ve noticed a change in your breath, this could be a sign of a wis­dom tooth problem.

Swollen jaw or face

We recommend regular checkups to monitor your oral health. This will help us to spot issues with your wisdom teeth before they become more problematic. If you haven’t visited the dentist for a while and are struggling with your wisdom teeth, get in touch today.

This all depends on the type of removal and whether you choose private or NHS treatment. You may be referred to a hospital for treatment, however the hospital waiting lists could be in excess of 12 months. Wisdom tooth removal from Implant & Cosmetic Smiles Clinic will cost between £150 to £350 depending on your specific tooth which will be discussed at consultation.

The waiting list for surgical wisdom teeth removal is currently very long, with some people waiting up to 12 months to be free from their wisdom teeth problems. If you would like to skip the waiting list, we recommend calling us now

In the short term, the infection may go away, but this isn’t a long-term solution. If you want to be free from dental infections, you may need to have the impacted wisdom tooth removed however at consultation if we feel it does not need to be removed we will let you know.

If your case is more complex or you are anxious, you can be sedated for your procedure. This will help to make you more comfortable and relaxed and make the procedure pass very quickly.
