The latest CT Scanner technology
We use the latest CT scanner technology to help plan your treatment. A CBCT (cone beam computerised tomography) scanner provides superior 3D medical imaging. We use this technology alongside normal X‑rays to improve our treatment planning.

How does a CT Scanner improve care?
Before CT scanners were readily available in dental practices, we had to rely on simple X-rays to plan your care . CT scans are capable of capturing a 3D image of the teeth , the bone and all vital surrounding structures like nerves and blood vessels in one image.
With better imaging available, dentists can better assess and plan for dental implants. It also ensures they are fully informed about potential complications before work begins, which allows for careful planning to minimize the risks.
Preparing for your CT Scan
If you have a CT scan in the hospital, this can sometimes be a bit daunting for some patients and may involve lying down . A dental CT scan is different as it focuses on the head and neck region so you will remain standing. Your dentist will ask you to remove anything that might obstruct the image, including piercings, necklaces, hair grips or hearing aids. The entire process takes just a few seconds and is non-invasive.
When is a dental CT scan required?
A dental CT scan is often the first step in planning dental implant treatment. It allows your dentist to assess the health and density of your jaw bone to determine if this is sufficient to support implants. It also gives your dentist an accurate view of the surrounding vital structures, including your sinuses, nerves and location of the blood vessels. This can help to inform the treatment plan.

The level of radiation you will be exposed to is not a dangerous amount so the procedure is very safe. A dental CT scan will expose you to lower levels of radiation than a full body CT scan as it is very localized to the area we are dealing with.
